The oldest resort in the Balkans
On the northern slopes of the Rila Mountains, Borovets, formerly Chamkoria, is presented as the oldest mountain resort in Bulgaria and the Balkans. The ski season runs from mid-December to April; in summer, Musala, the highest peak in the Balkans at 2,925 m, can be reached on foot from the resort.
The road from Sofia
The shortest route goes through Samokov, about ten kilometres from the resort: about 70 km from Sofia. Another option takes the Trakia motorway, then the road from Kostenets to Samokov: about 100 km.
Equipped for winter
The Porsche Macan GTS, the Audi RS6 Performance and the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S have all-wheel drive. From 15 November to 1 March, the law requires winter tyres or tyres with a tread depth of at least 4 mm; chains are mandatory where signposted.
