A UNESCO-listed town
The Old Town of Nessebar, ancient Mesembria, occupies a peninsula measuring 850 m by 350 m, linked to the mainland by an isthmus. An architectural reserve since 1956, it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1983; its churches, such as St Sophia and Christ Pantocrator, can be explored on foot.
The car and the Old Town
Car access to the Old Town is restricted. If your hotel is there, register your number plate with the municipality in advance: you have one hour to settle in, then the car moves to a car park, such as the one at the sea terminal or the marina.
Between Burgas and Sunny Beach
Nessebar is 36 km north-east of Burgas, whose airport is about thirty kilometres away. Sunny Beach begins just to the north.
