Two zones, two rates
Paid parking in Sofia is managed by the Urban Mobility Centre (ЦГМ). The blue zone covers the heart of the city; the green zone surrounds it. Streets bordering a zone are part of it, and the exact list of streets is published by the Urban Mobility Centre.
| Zone | Paid hours | Maximum stay | Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue zone | Monday to Saturday, 08:30–20:00 | 2 h | €1.02/h |
| Green zone | Monday to Friday, 08:30–19:30; Saturday, 10:00–18:00 | 4 h | €0.51/h |
Sunday is not listed among the paid hours. The Mayor may, however, change how the zones operate by order, for example during an event: signs on site take precedence.
Paying: app, SMS or ticket
- Sofia Plus and Urbo apps: free, payment by bank card, number plate entered in Latin characters. The zone suggested by geolocation is only indicative: check it before paying.
- SMS to 1302 (blue zone) or 1303 (green zone), containing only the number plate, without a country code: one SMS pays for one hour. The service is available only to customers of Bulgarian mobile operators.
- Paper ticket, sold by parking inspectors, at Urban Mobility Centre counters and in shops: €0.26, €0.51 or €1.02.
By SMS, write the plate exactly as it appears on the vehicle, in Cyrillic letters (“СА1234АВ”, not “SA1234AV”), then wait for the confirmation SMS before leaving the car.
Wheel clamping and towing
A vehicle left unpaid or beyond the time limit in a zone may be fitted with a wheel clamp: €15.34, plus the zone’s hourly rate until the end of the paid hours. The clamp is removed within one hour of a request made to 0700 13 233, or after payment in Sofia Plus or Urbo.
A vehicle still clamped after the end of the paid hours may be towed: €30.68, plus hourly storage charges. Towing is also possible without a clamp, for example under a sign announcing it, in a space reserved for people with disabilities or if the vehicle obstructs traffic.
The Urban Mobility Centre sends SMS messages only from the numbers 1302, 1303 and 1902: be wary of any other message requesting payment.
Rates that may change
A reform of rates and hours adopted by the Municipal Council has been suspended by the administrative courts, and the municipality has announced that the current rates will remain in place. The amounts in this guide are those published as at 8 October 2026: check them before you park.
